Saturday Morning Ride

Saturday Morning “Over 40″ Ride

Current Winter Start Time is 9:00 am

This is an informal ride that follows 25 miles of the Mayor’s Ride route through Roswell. This ride was tagged with the “over 40″ name in jest but it has stuck. You do not have to ride over 40 miles nor be over 40 years of age to ride with us. We have cyclists from teens to well over 40.

I will start off by saying that most beginning riders find this route challenging. There are hills and there are nice flats (next to the river). Most if not all of the Saturday riders use road bikes. We had a new rider use a hybrid recently and she said she was going straight to the store to buy a road bike. That said—a heavy hybrid bike will make this ride a bit more work but it can be done.

The main body of riders ride at a “C” level pace, averaging around 15-17mph for the entire 25 mile route. We have some that are faster and some that are slower. The course is marked on the road with yellow markings and there is a printable cue sheet online. Thursday Night Map

The route is the same as the Thursday night ride but we start at Roswell Area Park. Helmet required, rain at start time cancels.

Ride Safety: The City of Roswell has attained Bicycle Friendly Bronze status from the League of American Bicyclists. To attain Silver status, we need to build community with drivers and peds.

DO NOT RUN RED LIGHTS, if you meet a car at a stop sign, STOP, put a foot down. If there are no cars or peds, treat it as you do in a car. Under Georgia Law a bicycle is considered a “vehicle” with the same rights and obligations as any other vehicle. They are required to obey all traffic control devices. Just like all vehicle operators they are solely responsible for their own actions.

The ride time changes to take advantage of daylight, temps and reduced traffic.  7:30am  is the Summer start time,  8am is our Spring and Fall start time, while 9am is our Winter start time. We may move it when the temps are hot, cold or as daylight changes and the current start time will be posted here.  The ride starts in Roswell Area Park from the first parking lot on the left. 10495 Woodstock Road. Contact Doug Fallon at fallondesign@mindspring.com, for more details.
