GA400 Bridge Replacement at Big Creek
As part of the GA400 Express Lanes project, GDOT proposes to replace the GA400 bridge that stretches over Big Creek. The current bridge is very low, but could likely accommodate a trail. Any new bridge that is constructed should be built to accommodate trail. Ideally work for creating the trail could be done during the bridge construction project to allow for the trail to be completed immediately after the bridge is completed.
A bridge under GA400 would allow car free extension of the Big Creek Greenway east along the flat grade of the creek. This would provide access to West Roswell, the Big Creek Parkway Bridge, and more than 50 acreas of City of Roswell Property zoned for civic and parks. Future extensions along Big Creek as well as the opportunity for a Path400 style trail along GA400 could also be accomodated as part of the GA400 Express Lane expansion.

The Big Creek extension under 400 would add a key connection in Roswell for trail access on the east and west sides of GA400 in Roswell and increase access to the trail system for thousands of residents.
There is already precedent for bike/pedestrian underpass at Big Creek under GA400. This specific connection exists along the Forsyth Big Creek Greenway. The below images are from the Forsyth section of the Big Creek Greenway as it passes below GA400 along the creek.
The below image is of additional Big Creek wetlands located west of GA400. A Big Creek Parkway underpass trail could potentially link to additional trails and parks on the west side of 400.
